Weekly Faith Formation Program for Youth:  CCD

The parish supports a weekly program for catechesis for children/adolescents K-12 in the formation of their faith and in the preparation for the sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and Holy Communion.  At the parish level this faith formation program is referred to as CCD (Confraternity of Christian Doctrine).

This program also serves to support ministries of service, charity, outreach and social activities for the youth of the parish in line with the values of Catholic practice and faith.

The teachers for the program are lay catechists.  The coordinator is Mrs. Becca Yemm (217)416-8297.

History:

Previously, the Sacred Heart Dominicans in Springfield traveled throughout the diocese to provide a weekly hour of Catechism instruction at each parish up until the mid 1980s.  In 1978 the two Virden parishes (Sacred Heart and St. Catherine) provided joint support to build a parish school of religion on Sacred Heart property.  The building is named for St Elizabeth Ann Seton, the first American born saint and a supporter of Catholic education.
